Memorial Day

Whether it has been Decoration Day or Memorial Day, every year since 1868 our great nation has paused on this holiday to remember and honor the men and women that have died while serving in the US military.  As we recognize these fallen comrades we must also continue to remember and always do everything possible to honor and support the men, women, and their families, that are currently serving in our country's Armed Forces.  As our VFW Mission Statement states, "Honor the Dead While Helping the Living".

However you might choose to celebrate this Memorial Day, and wherever your travels may take you, I ask that you keep the true meaning of this national holiday first in your mind and heart.  Please consider inviting a veteran to join you in your celebration that may not be able to do so on their own, or taking the time to make sure that our younger Americans understand why we have chosen Memorial Day to honor and celebrate these brave men and women. It will be a great honor for them and you.

May our fallen comrades rest in peace and may God watch over and protect our Armed Forces members that are away from their families serving their country and protecting our freedom as we gather together to celebrate this sacred holiday.

Yours in Comradeship,

Buddy Gillam
Post Commander
