Monthly Comrades Meeting

Guests this month from the Military Magnet Academy include Col. Joe Dawson (USAR ret), Mr John Snowden (Cpt. USMC Vietnam service).
Our meetings are a great opportunity for everyone to stay informed and play a part of all we do at post 3137 to support our fellow veterans, their families, and the mission of the VFW.
Important topics which affect you and the operation of our post, including business related items, post improvements, upcoming social events, and volunteer opportunities are discussed and crucial decisions.

District 1 (VAVS) Coats and Shoes Drive for Local Veterans
Now through November 30, 2020 - Drop-Off by VFW Post 3137 Front Door Entrance

VFW and VFW Auxiliary (VAVS) Representatives for Ralph H Johnson VA Medical Center are reaching out to to ask for your support concerning a priority unmet need of our Charleston area veterans. There is a need of Winter coats and shoes/boots for these veterans. It's a great opportunity for our Post Members to to help provide these essential clothing items for these veterans.
The coats and shoes/boots must be NEW and the sizes that are most needed are as follows: Coats (size large, extra large, and 2 extra large). Shoes (size 10-13, including half sizes. There will be very specific distribution of these items to the veterans managed by Ralph H Johnson VA Medical Center. 2020 has been a very difficult year so far. Helping to fulfill these unmet needs for these local veterans would be an a very positive step.
2020 Virtual Veterans Day Parade

The Department of Veteran's Affairs and VA Medical Center's Virtual Veteran's Day Parade airs on the Ralph H. Johnson Facebook page (https://m.facebook.com/VAMCCharleston)

On October 18, our post shot videos of our parade on the beach for consideration in the parade. VFW Post 3137 has submitted and VA Medical Center selected our 30 second among the best 150 thirty second videos to be played.

Patriots Point Naval & Maritime Museum
Museum to offer free admission to veterans Nov. 11 -15 and will host Flags for Heroes

Patriots Point Naval & Maritime Museum will serve as Charleston's home for patriotism during Veterans Day week. In appreciation of those who served in the military, the museum will offer free admission to veterans on Wednesday, November 11 (Veterans Day), through Sunday, Nov. 15. The museum has also partnered with the East Cooper Breakfast Rotary Club and the USS Yorktown Foundation to showcase a breathtaking display of hundreds of American Flags. The flags will serve as reminder of the true meaning of Veterans Day and will fly in front of the Patriots Point Cold War Submarine Memorial. Those interested in sponsoring a flag in honor of a military hero, can visit charlestonrotaryflags.org. Funds raised will support local community service projects and the Charleston Fisher House. The flags will be displayed through Nov. 15.
"Our museum was created to foster and celebrate American patriotism," said Patriots Point Naval & Maritime Museum Executive Director Larry Murray. "We hope the community will spend some time walking in the steps of the heroes that have so proudly defended our freedom. Veterans Day is a time to celebrate those heroes, and there's no better way to do that than being here at Patriots Point."
Patriots Point Naval & Maritime Museum is open to visitors weekdays 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and weekends 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Visit patriotspoint.org to learn more about the museum's exhibits and to purchase tickets online.

Toys for Tots Drive is On
Through December 6, 2020
We are collecting new, unopened toys for the Toys for Tots program. Donations accepted at the Post through Sunday, December 6th. Help underprivileged children have a bright and joyous Christmas. Donate to Toys for Tots. Just drop a toy in the collection box at the VFW Post 3137. We will collect toys until December 6th.
