From Commander Stallings: Important Updates

All,
Good evening. This next year serves to be another promising year for our Post. There are a few important updates that I would like to share with you. As always, you are encouraged to participate in Comrade meetings held the second Monday of every month. Our next monthly meeting will be held at the Post on Monday September 12th, 2022, at 1830hrs.
Be advised that we have recently replaced the HV/AC unit at the post due to its untimely failure brought on by prolonged exposure to salty air. Normally an expense of this nature would be approved at a Comrades Meeting, but due to the emergent nature, the House Committee interceded and executed the replacement of our 5-ton air handler. The cost associated with the replacement was $4,700.00. The work was performed by AirTech of Charleston. Per Post By-Laws we are required to notify Comrades of the emergency action. We are more than happy to answer any questions you may have regarding this matter at our next meeting.
Additionally, District Commander Curtis Peterson provided the following guidance regarding lawsuits authorized under the Camp LeJeune Justice Act portion of PACT (Section 804):
Veterans are NOT encouraged to sign anything binding them to participation in lawsuits until the VA clarifies how settlements will affect service-connected benefits and care. It is too early in the process to agree with an attorney concerning Camp LeJeune lawsuits.
Veterans should continue to engage their VFW Service Officer regarding the mater. We are monitoring the regulatory process closely and the VA's response to Section 804 of the PACT Act.
Lastly, our flag retirement ceremony is rescheduled from September 10, 2022, to Saturday October 1, 2022, at 1000hrs. The ceremony will take place at the Post and all are invited to attend.
In Comradeship,
Bo Stallings
